It's a beautiful night, still warm but with a cooler breeze coming off the lake. Lilly and Jayne are sprawled on a blanket not too far from the water. Because this is Lilly, the blanket is thick, soft, and extremely comfortable, suitable for laying out long enough to perfect a tan or do some star-gazing.

Because this is also Jayne, there is beer.

Jayne squints up at the tiny points of white.

"Stars're weird here. Funny arrangements."

"Well, this sky is five hundred years in your past and like, a galaxy over," Lilly points out.

"That's going to mess up your usual constellations just a little."

"Guess so," he replies, tightening his arm around her. "Ain't no Unicorn or nothin'."

Lilly glances up at him.

"You guys have a unicorn? God, that is so not fair. All we get are crappy heroes that are famous for their belts or something."

She sighs heavily.

"I think I like your sky better."

"What's so shiny about a belt?"

"Nothing," Lilly replies.

She starts to grin.

"There can, however, be something special about the way you take it off. Okay, so I'm guessing this is a really pointless question, but have you ever been to a strip club?"

A silence.

"You mean, like, a looky-loo whorehouse?"

"Yes?" Lilly guesses. It sounds about right.

"Anyway, I'm having a strip night at my whorehouse, to benefit the Joe Manco fund. Interested?"

"Depends on who's gettin' naked," Jayne growls, taking a swig of beer. "Look but don't touch, is that it?"

"That's the idea, yeah," Lilly replies.

"Look, throw money, whistle, cheer, whatever, but no touching unless the stripper gives you permission. And I'll have brothel security around to make sure it can't get out of hand."

He finally gets to the point.

"You gonna be one of the lucky ladies?"

Lilly shrugs, leaning into him a little.

"I don't know. You going to be one of the lucky guys?"

This takes some thought.

"...I ain't takin' my shorts off for anybody but you, if that's what you're askin'."

But what a sight it would be.

"Awwww."

Lilly pouts, because well... it would be a sight. She's fairly sure he'd get a lot of money for the fund, too.

"Oh well. You'll still come even if you won't strip, right?"

"You tell me when and where, and I'll even spare a bit of hard-earned swag for your pot." Another swig of beer. "What's it for again?"

"Joe Manco fund," Lilly replies.

"Some guy who was here before left his cash when he moved on so that the dead and bound patrons could pay their tabs. It's handy. I mean, if you need it."

"Awful nice of him," Jayne muses. "Altruistic-like. You know him at all?"

"Nope."

She shrugs.

"And altruistic, yes, but also... you can't take it with you. Huh. Maybe I should make a will so my bar money goes somewhere fun."

"I can take it with me," Jayne grumbles.

All bluster. What he has in the end will go to his ma and his siblings.

And Kaylee and River. Let's face it.

Lilly rolls her eyes.

"Right."

She pokes him in the side.

"Maybe I'll leave some of my money to you, and you can buy weapons with it. The Lilly Kane Memorial Shiny Things Fund."

Jayne brightens immediately. "Hey, shiny! I'll have a great big knife engraved with your name on it, how's that?"

Lilly cracks up.

"I'd be touched, I'm sure. If I wasn't gone."

She settles back against him, laughter subsiding.

"You like weird things, Jaynie."

His hand slides up her shoulder and into her hair, tugging gently. "Well. Like you, and all."

"Which is really perfectly normal," Lilly says airily, nestling a bit closer.

"The weird bit comes in with me liking you."

"Ain't so," Jayne harrumphs. "'M perfectly normal."

"Aw, don't sell yourself short."

Lilly grins wickedly.

"I'd say you were better than normal in a few ways."

With care, Jayne sets his beer in the grass, and ponders the stars for a moment longer.

Then, Lilly is pinned to the blanket, and there is a very large fellow blocking the stars entirely.

"That so."

Lilly's a little bit startled but certainly not displeased. She smiles up at Jayne.

"Yeah. Or at least, I think so. I mean, I don't really see you that often, so maybe I'm remembering things wrong?"

A teasing grin. "You feel I been neglectful?"

"Yes," Lilly says firmly. "Extremely neglectful."

She's not even trying to sound seriously offended.

"But I bet you can make it up to me."
