Lilly spots a light on under the brothel office door, and beams.

Inara must be in. Inara does not know she is back.

Grinning, Lilly knocks on the door and does her best "loud and obnoxious" voice. It sounds a little like Jayne and a lot like a bad drag queen.

"Scuse me, is there here a house o' whores, or what? I could use some lovin!"

Lilly sputters a little on her glass of champagne.

"Seriously? Because one employee who's had her foot out the door for ages finally left?"

She waves her hand dismissively.

"No worries. And Goldy was a good worker, but she always had that attitude, you know? A couple of the clients found it kinda offputting."

She giggles a little.

"Girl would have never made it as a Companion in your world."

"Well, I can't really say, as I never saw her work, but that reminds me. I wanted to ask you..." She hesitates, not wanting to step on Lilly's toes.

"Have you ever thought about doing more with the brothel? Taking it in a different direction?"

Lilly blinks at her.

"Uh, maybe? I'm not sure what you mean, what kind of direction? Franchising? Merchandising? Because I'm not sure Delicate Flowers t-shirts would be a big hit, but I'm willing to consider it!"

Inara laughs, relaxing a bit. "Not exactly. I was thinking more of a change of atmosphere."

She leans back and gestures around. "This space is so lovely, it deserves people who consider their job that way. It wouldn't take much to teach them how to be more than just whores."

"Ohhh, I see."

Lilly arches an eyebrow, looking intrigued.

"You're thinking more like a full Companion experience, not just sex?"

"In a way," Inara nods. "Making this space available for more than just sex. A place for conversation and relaxation, as well as physical pleasures."

"Oooooh."

Lilly's eyes get very big.

"I get it! Like, still have the brothel but also maybe a lounge/club type thing. Smaller, private, intimate... that's brilliant!

She's grinning now.

"I mean, main bar is full of kids and noise and fights most of the time, I bet an adults-only spot where you could come for a date or a quiet drink would be soooo popular."

Inara nods. "We should talk to Bernard about this - I wouldn't want to steal focus from the bar, obviously, but I think it would make a Delicate Flowers experience much more rich."

"Bernard'll probably be cool," Lilly replies thoughtfully. "I mean, it's not like we could actually fit enough people in here, even with renovations, to disturb Bar."

She glances around the space.

"The rent'll go up if we do renovations, but I think we should. Separate the actual brothel from the nightclub area a little, so people who get scandalized by sex-for-hire can still have a place to get away."

Inara gives a small laugh. "Perhaps the easily scandaled will leave with a new appreciation for whoredom."

Lilly grins.

"Maybe they will. And isn't that what it's really all about, 'nara? Making the world a better place for whores?"

Inara nods gravely. "I can think of no better purpose to strive towards in one's life."

She manages to hold the pose, giving Lilly an arch stare.

This is why Inara is the professional and Lilly, who's giggling like mad on the sofa, is just an enthusiastic amateur.

"We're totally noble. Which is cool. I look good in noble!"

In the face of Lilly's giggling, Inara can't hold it any longer. She also starts giggling.

She grabs her glass and holds it up for another toast. "To our nobility and selfless thoughts of others."
