[awesome_lilly]

Last night, Lilly got stabbed. It gets a little hazy after that, but she's fairly sure that she's going to live... as much as she generally does.

She's ensconced on the couch with pain pills and Jello in easy reach, flipping between a telenovela and cheesy cable movies. While she's no longer hopped up on adrenaline, pot brownies, and Everclear she's still fairly woozy.

Good times.

"If I weren't really involved with an awesome grown-up blonde, I'd say we need more awesome blondes of all ages." He smiles coyly.

"The weekly column is what I wanted. It was time to try something new. But..." He leans in a bit. "Hell, yes, I miss the crime beat. I try not to write crime stroies that much, but it's Gotham. We're all about the crime."

"Wow," Lilly says. "That should be your city motto!"

"...okay, it might put off the tourists some, but still! Totally cool."

"Tourists? In Gotham? Some people come to see the Bat. Otherwise, we never get tourists." He's amused at the idea, though.

"Really?"

Lilly stares at him.

"You're a big city and you don't get any tourists at all? Uh, no offense, but does your city really suck? Because even Detroit gets tourists in my world."

"It does suck. Can't really deny the truth." He's not smiling. He loves Gotham, but it's not a great place. "We get some tourists, but Gotham's kinda unpleasant. Bad zoning laws left us with too much building and no sunshine. And then we went broke."

"Ew, suck."

Lilly wrinkles her nose.

"No sunshine? Yeah, I'd skip a visit there too. No offense."

"None taken. Between you and me...I don't live in the city anymore, either. I took some of the money Rachel gave me and moved across the border. I felt rotten about it..." He didn't feel entirely rotten, but he does seem a bit unhappy even now about the choice.

"Guess we can't all be from Neptune."

"Hey, there was plenty wrong with Neptune too," Lilly assures him.

"We had sunshine, though. That's always helpful in balancing out the murders, bribery, corruption, and general shadiness of an area, I think."

"Hey, a place with murders, bribery, corruption and shadiness but also sunshine is nicer than Gotham. Sounds like fun." He says this with a smirk, but that smirk fades. "Not that I think murder is a good thing, of course. And the Echolls siblings have told me some rotten stuff, too."

"Well, Logan and Trina'd know."

Lilly smiles humorlessly.

"Logan's dad killed me and his mom committed suicide. He's pretty aware of how bad Neptune can suck."

"Yeah, he kinda told me about that. About his dad, anyway. Didn't mention his mom. Poor guy. No wonder he's...well, no wonder hw sounds like a Gothamite.

"Haven't seen him or his sister in ages. She's pretty nice. Only actress who ever let me buy her a drink." He forces himself to be a bit more cihpper, so that Lilly will do the same. (Though given her meds, that should be easy.)

"Logan came to see me the other day, but I haven't seen Trina in... wow. A really long time."

Lilly shrugs.

"We were never that close. She kept wanting to produce the story of my tragic murder and cast really shitty actresses as me."

"Yeah, that'a Trina. A genuine phony. Though when I first heard your story, I wanted to know if there was s Neptune in my world. It IS a great story, sad to say. Thankfully, ther's not." It's not that he's above such things. But he has grown, whether he knows it or not.

"Yeah, it's got everything."

Lilly laughs a little.

"I think Bar is about the only place my story wouldn't particularly stick out. Everybody's got a story here."

"Yes and no. I mean, my girlfriend's a fairy tale princess and I'm buds with a werewolf and two super-heroes. But murder and fame together...sad but true, Lilly, but that sells papers. Even here, I'd bet." He smiles but is not proud of his industry. "Though one of these days, I am going to start writing that book about Rapunzel and we'll see what else sells."

"Well, in order to sell more papers we'd probably have to produce them more often," Lilly says, grinning.

"Murder and fame might do it, but so would actually printing the Say True on a regular basis. Although Meg and I do think that our current publishing schedule is excitingly random!"

"Well, you keep the readers guessing. It's like that TVshow with Bruce Willis that had all the production problems? You tuned in, never knowing when it would be new!" Knox used to want to be like Bruce Willis, but never admits it. "And that's before your time, right?" She wouldn't have even been born when Moonlighting was on.

"Anyway, I'm sure that when you have an issue, we'll be lining up." This is known as kissing up to the boss, even though he hasn't ever actually contributed anything.

"Well, since I'm stuck here lying around all day, I've been having some ideas."

Lilly eyes Knox thoughtfully.

"I could maybe use you on some of them. What's your schedule like these days, and how often are you in bar?"

"Well, I'm around as much as I can be." Having a woman in the bar provides lots of incentive. "But my schedule...it's sorta in flux. The paper gave me two new crime reporters to break in. Just for a few months. So some weeks, I'm left to just write the column. Other weeks, I get swallowed up. I even had a stretch a couple of months back when I didn't have a door in for a long while. Bar seemed to think I needed to stay home.

"You want me to try getting some more stories here?"

"If you think you can," Lilly says. "I mean, I understand the balancing multiple lives thing, I have kids now."

She wrinkles her nose. Kids totally take up way too much of her time.

"But yeah, we've been getting more new people again, it might be a good idea to try getting the paper out a little more often."

"I'm game if you are, Boss." He does miss writing acutal news stories. And knows that it's likely he will not be really do that here. But he likes a challenge.
